did your process of leaving the organisation and learning new stuff feel like growing up to you?
looking back at your time in the so called "truth", do you think you were misled or even "naive"?
even "innocent"?
How do you train fleas for a flea circus? Keep them in a jar until they jump just short of the lid, then remove the lid. Fleas never figure out the lid is gone - they jump just short every time.
the recent thread about the 5yr old baptized got me to thinking....... i learned to read at an early age.
i was also in all the gifted classes in school.
i remember a great deal of the witness kids were in gifted classes.
Well, heck, Blondie, maybe the ones that read early are here, and the ones who didn't are still there.
Hey, could happen. But obviously it would be ego-feeding to say the smartest people leave - smart and brave do not neccesarily correlate.

Now, Tink, we gotta bring the boy up right. (ow, this tongue thing hurts if I try it when talking :)
LOL Craig.
Something I'd be curious to determine, but I see no effective way to do it: Do Witness kids tend to be left-brain-dominant?
I have a suspicion that there are more literarily-advanced JW kids than artistic...but it's just a suspicion.
.
when they call their number is blocked out.this makes them unavailable when you want to call them.don't even try to call them after 9pm at bethel,no matter what the emergency!they only call you to get you to come to the meetings and go out into field service!.
so now we turned on ( acr ) anonymous call rejection, which allows us to reject calls from callers who have blocked the display of their telephone numbers.now my number will not ring and the caller will hear a message that instructs them to hang up and remove their blocking and call again.. since we did this, elders are not calling us anymore.as i said they want to know your number,so they can call you to come to meetings, otherwise they can't be bothered.they give their cell number to a select few only.the congregation as a whole don't have the elders cell phone numbers.don't try to get them at bethel either, once they know who is calling they hit the ignore button in their head.. really, i can't be bothered by the elders calling me about the same old same old line.but for those who really need some kind of help or information about whatever, this shows that they are not truly shepherds of sheep.. blueblades
hmmm... was never an issue in the 70's and 80's...must be the new crop.

actually, bradley, if I told a female that she was wrong, but cute, I'd expect her to slap my ear off.

TY, Tink.
BTW, I forgot to say tht the population of an Internet message board is a good filter for measured "intelligence" (even though we sometimes don't act like it!:) so we as a population are probably not statistically relevant.

1) I knew some real idiots in my age group at the Hall.
2) They may get more exposure to reading, and thus be ahead at reading at an early age. But they sure don't learn to think any better, and I would resist cataloging "bright" and "reading" together automatically. How about math? Any Witness math whizzes?
Reminds me of the South Park episode with the home-schooled kids.
mike and i just looked at this awesome place.
ok so we have been looking at apartments and houses all week (because our land lord sucks) and we have looked at some real interesting ones.
ranging from $500/mo crack houses to $1100/mo victorian houses.
Best of luck with it!
PS
i remember my boss asking me once this question, since he knew i was a witness.
he asked, "what resurrects, the body, the soul, what?.
he knew that witnesses believe in the resurrection of the dead on earth, in a different physical body during the millennium.. i told him that it won't be the same physical body, and maybe won't be identical, but it's the same person.
AlanF, I erred. Offering feedback where none is desired is inappropriate on my part. You have stated that you want specifics to respond to, so you have shown that you want to debate my feedback, not accept it as possibly valuable. I have no interest in debating you about how you could communicate better - partly because trying to be right on an Internet discussion board is a silly waste of time for all concerned. Communication is not what happens when we talk - it's what happens when others "get" our intentions and our concepts. As such, it's pretty easy to see when we're communicating and when we're not.
You have said that feedback without specifics is worthless. I have had several instances where people have given me feedback about situations where I could have been more effective, without specifics, and I have looked at my actions and their results, and seen how I could have performed better - because I wanted to be as effective as possible with as many different kinds of people as possible. If I provide you with a laundry list, in the present atmosphere it would just be argument fodder - and as such a waste of our time.
You said that using the term "victim" was an ad hominem attack. Whenever anyone says "unless you do this, I'll have to do this" they are playing victim. You don't have to do anything you choose not to do - you own that responsibility, and when anyone shirks it and imputes their power to others, it's a victim statement. There's no negative connotation here to the term, and no personal slight is intended.
You apparently see no need at the moment for self-examination, and to offer feedback in such a situation is silly on my part. I'll save it for situations where it might have some value. Hell, you can't even believe that I might be able to understand English, so there's not much hope in you thinking my comments might have relevance :).
See you around the playground, have a nice week,
PS
